SuWEP Grant Facility Project Round  II

Background on the project

SuWEP is now a women movement network working for the betterment of Sudanese women to strengthen and empower them politically, socially and economically. The Northern and Southern groups’ members operate on the basis of a common vision, mission and goal. They have a strong vision of a united women’s movement in Sudan that respects internal diversity and contributes to democracy, development, justice, gender equality and inclusiveness in a society based on sustainable peace.

In December 2006 the RNE appointed Salmmah Women’s Resource Centre as the new management body for SuWEP. Salmmah was initiated by a group of Sudanese women in 1997 as a non-profitable civil society organisation dedicated to support women organisations, human rights and peace issues. In the current phase of the programme funding through the management support of Salmmah focuses on increasing SuWEP visibility to donors, the improvement of the organisational capacities of the SuWEP groups and the facilitation of a limited number of member group activities through a grant facility.

The grant facility aims to award grants to SuWEP groups who seek contributions for short term activities or projects that will promote the vision and mission of the SuWEP programme.

As the first round has successfully been executed and taking into consideration all the lessoned learnt through it SuEWP now is running the second round of the project.
